HOW WELLPLEASE WORKS

How Wellplease
scores your day.

Wellplease is an iPhone app that reads Apple Health and brings your sleep, readiness, and activity into one calm view. The scores use original, inspectable calculations. Here’s what goes into them, and what they can tell you.

SleepReadinessActivityYour dataAI coachingAccuracy

How is the sleep score calculated?

Your sleep score combines the available information about your main sleep: duration, continuity, time in bed, and consistency of sleep timing. Duration is the largest contributor. Meeting your personal sleep goal earns full duration credit; sleeping longer does not keep increasing the score.

  • Duration: time recorded asleep compared with your sleep goal.
  • Continuity: recorded awake time during a night with sufficiently complete sleep-stage data.
  • Efficiency: time asleep compared with an actual recorded in-bed interval, when one is available.
  • Consistency: sleep timing compared with at least seven previous main sleeps within the prior 14 recorded days.

Missing contributors are left out and the available ones are reweighted. Gaps in recordings are not assumed to be awake or asleep. Wellplease uses the longest sleep episode of at least one hour ending on a given local day; naps are not part of this score. Overlapping sleep records are counted once.

Deep, REM, and core sleep estimates are shown when recorded, but the score does not reward a fixed target percentage for each stage. A wearable’s stage labels remain estimates.

What does the readiness score measure?

Readiness combines your overnight HRV, sleeping heart rate, and available sleep score. It compares the heart signals with your own recent baseline rather than a population target. This gives you context for your morning, alongside how you actually feel.

A score requires current overnight HRV and sleeping heart rate, plus at least seven prior readings of each. The baseline can use up to 60 prior daily summaries and excludes the current day. It is labeled “Early baseline” until both signals have at least 21 prior readings, then “Established baseline.” These labels describe data coverage, not medical certainty.

HRV methods are kept separate: SDNN history is compared with SDNN, and RMSSD with RMSSD when supported. Missing baseline data means no readiness score, rather than a zero. Higher HRV is not universally better, and a change in heart rate or HRV can have many causes. Wrist temperature is context; it is not a fever detector or an automatic score penalty.

How is the activity score calculated?

Activity reflects your steps and exercise minutes compared with the goals you choose. Available contributors are combined into a score from 0 to 100. During the day it represents progress so far. Going beyond a goal does not earn unlimited extra points.

It is a simple view of movement toward your goals. The first version does not estimate accumulated training fatigue or prescribe how hard you should exercise. Your goals, circumstances, and how you feel still matter.

What data does Wellplease read from Apple Health?

Supported measurements include sleep, sleep stages, heart rate, HRV, steps, exercise, active energy, respiratory rate, VO₂ max, wrist temperature, and logged nutrition. What appears depends on the records in Apple Health, your devices, and the permissions you grant. Wellplease reads existing measurements; it does not create new sensor readings or modify your Health records.

You do not need an Oura ring. An Apple Watch adds useful overnight signals, while compatible apps or devices may supply other measurements. The first version requires an iPhone running iOS 27 or later. If a measurement is absent, check your Health permissions and recorded data.

How does optional AI coaching work?

You request guidance and review the exact summary before choosing to send it. The summary can include up to 28 days of daily aggregates, personal baselines, scores, goals, and an optional current check-in. Raw HealthKit samples, sleep segments, and workout routes are not included. Your imported health history stays on your iPhone.

The coaching service sends that summary to OpenAI to suggest what may be working and a small change to consider. It does not store your health history. Provider retention may still apply. Nutrition guidance stays general when detailed intake is unavailable, and AI can make mistakes. Read the privacy policy before deciding to share.

How accurate are the scores?

These are wellness estimates, not clinically validated measurements. Software tests check calculation behavior and handling of missing or overlapping data; they do not establish medical accuracy. Recording quality and a changing personal baseline can affect your results.

Wellplease’s algorithms are original. They are not copies of Oura or Bevel, and agreement with either app has not been established. Use the contributors and trends as a starting point for reflection, alongside your own experience. Scores and AI guidance are not a diagnosis or a substitute for professional care.
